Residence status in the United Kingdom – Information
Do you want to get residency in the UK? Until you have to apply and what you have to do. A residence permit in the UK is required for those who want to stay and work there after June 30, 2021 (which is also the deadline to apply for this status).
Based on the application (which is free), if approved, you can obtain permanent or temporary residence status.
If you receive temporary residence status, after 5 years you will be able to apply for permanent residence status.
What rights does your residence status give you
Once obtained, the residence status entitles you to:
- to work in the UK
- to use the National Health System (NHS)
- to enroll in educational programs or to continue your studies
- access public funds, such as state social assistance and pensions, if you are entitled to them
- to travel to and from the UK
How to obtain residence status
In order to apply for a new residence permit in the UK, you need 2 things:
- valid identity card / passport
- proof of uninterrupted residence (Attention! You can apply for temporary establishment status and if you have not lived in the UK for 5 consecutive years)
